Councillors at East Lothian Council have noted the recent awarding of £2.25m of new build projects.

£2.1m of this sum was awarded to Hart Properties for the construction of eight one-bedroom flats and twelve two-bedroom flats at 1 Kilwinning Street, Musselburgh.

In February this year the council was awarded an additional £600,000 of Scottish Government investment funding towards the development costs for this project.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, Cllr Stuart Currie, said: “This single contract provides a range of benefits for both individuals and communities in East Lothian. The 20 new properties will increase the council’s stock of affordable housing and provide much needed accommodation for couples and families in our largest town. The successful contractor is an East Lothian business which means a boost to the local economy at a time when construction businesses are feeling the pinch.”

A further £150,000 was awarded to Russells Leisure Ltd for the design and build of three new play areas in Muirpark, Tranent and Goose Green, Musselburgh.
